Disused stores building at Springwell

The pair of corrugated iron roofed buildings were, used as the stores for the wagon shops and Butlins. This use continued under the preservation of the railway. However after many-repeated vandal attacks the use of these two buildings has become limited.

The southern most building's walls are of brick construction. The northern building is all corrugated iron; this building was at one time the middle building of three. A smaller corrugated iron building on an approximately 10 feet square base used to exist to the north of this one. However this building, which was used for the storage of oils and paints used for wagon restoration, was destroyed during an arson attack during the early days of the preservation.

The two persons responsible for this arson attack and arson attacks on some of the wagons including wagon 1289 were caught and prosecuted but received light sentences after pleading guilty at Durham Crown Court.
