No 22 simmers in Springwell Yard waiting for its first duty.

No 22 piloted by WST powering across Springwell Crossing with a heavy load of coal wagons.

WST returns light to Springwell, leaving No 22 to take the train around the curve onto the newly opened Wrekenton Extension. The Extension is laid on the trackbed of the old Pelaw Main Railway (originally Ouston Wagonway), which runs parallel to Bowes for some distance near the summit of the hill at Eighton Banks. The rollers in the centre of the track are to carry the haulage rope when sets are lowered from Blackhams Hill to Springwell using the Blackhams Hill stationary winding engine.

No 22 does a movement from the south to the north side of Springwell Yard. This requires a shunt across the road at Springwell.

WST returns from the top of the incline with a set of steel hoppers.

No 22 hauls the Bowes chaldron wagons around the curve past the signal cabin and on across the road.

WST waits to take the 10 wagon set from Springwell to Wrekenton.

Oiling up before departure.

WST eases a mixed set back into Springwell Yard, heading down the yard towards the dish. The set comprises: oil wagon, reel wagon, restored flat wagon, ballast wagon. The reel wagon is used to transport new haulage ropes to the haulage engine.

The Railway's 4-coupled Hunslet prepares to shunt stock into the sidings at the end of the day.
